Two coresponding bowls
Andreas Riess, 2018
After some fourty years I became intrigued to start pottery again after meeting with known ceramicist and designer Alexandra Nilasdotter. She was having an exhibition at a typeo pop-up event in Hunnestad, Österlen and the conversation with her re-ignited my enthusiasm for ceramics once again.
It was glazes and decoration what intrigued me at that time most and so I thougt to produce a plain vessel that would serve as canvas for variations of decor. I quote from my diary: "The idea is to manufacture a standard ceramic objects, their outer surface lending themself as a canvas for different decor systems. Mixes of different salts and oxides along with custom glazes will be applied to the naked shard, which partly remains unglazed."
To be honest, nothing much came of that. I made a series with sketches of rape seed pods that I scratched through a black unfired glaze. And I used stencils to apply a proprietary "tatoo" to the naked, unfired shard.
These days those pieces play almost no roll at all any longer. Today my bowls with outwardly inclined contour are the product of the day.
They are dishwasher safe, microwave safe and certified as food safe and come in three standard sizes.
